Samford University Cumberland School of Law offers a full complement of Continuing Legal Education (CLE) seminars led by faculty, attorneys from the Alabama State Bar and top legal consultants from across the nation.
 
This spring, Cumberland School of Law CLE will host two new seminars for Alabama attorneys: Child Trafficking: Services and Solutions for Survivors co-sponsored by the school’s Center for Children, Law and Ethics; and Appellate Brief Writing – What Justices are Actually Looking For.

Child Trafficking: Services and Solutions for Survivors

Co-sponsored with Cumberland School of Law’s Center for Children, Law and Ethics, this 4.0-hour CLE event focused on child trafficking will be led by David Smolin, professor and director of the center. Smolin is an internationally sought-after expert in the areas of children and the law, trafficking and exploitation of children, children’s rights, human rights and more.

Janie L. Shores Moot Court Competition and Free CLE

1.0 CLE hours in Alabama.

The 2024 Janie L. Shores Moot Court Competition, "Appellate Brief Writing – What Justices are Actually Looking For", will feature guest speaker, Supreme Court of Alabama Justice James L. "Jay" Mitchell.

Justice Mitchell will speak on what the Supreme Court of Alabama and appellate courts look for in a brief. Following the discussion, participants are invited to stay and watch the final round of the upperclassman appellate argument competition. After the oral arguments conclude, participating justices and judges will provide guidance on how to connect the briefs to the oral argument.
